Conductor and Accompanist

Past Conductor (1995 - 2010): Conductor - Colin Start GRSM ARCM
Colin Start was born in Suffolk, studied the viola at the Royal College of Music and, following his graduation, at the Britten-Pears School in Suffolk.
He has worked with leading UK chamber orchestras and was a member of the Northern Sinfonia. His performing career has also involved teaching younger musicians, and he is a tutor at The Sage, Gateshead. Colin embarked on his conducting studies in the Czech Republic, and he has been a guest conductor with regional choirs and orchestras.
In 1995, he became Music Director of the Alnwick and District Choral Society, with whom he has toured the Czech Republic and Austria. He is currently Head of Music at a school in Whitley Bay, and a frequent chamber musician performer throughout the UK.

Past Accompanist: Scott Grey
The Society was extremely fortunate in having the services of Scott Grey, a very able and committed accompanist. Originally a member of the basses, Scott adopted his new role in 1988. He retired in 2010 after 37 years.
