| Conductor - Colin
Start GRSM ARCM |
 |
Colin Start was born in Suffolk, studied
the viola at the Royal College of Music and, following his
graduation, at the Britten-Pears School in Suffolk.
He has worked with leading UK chamber orchestras
and was a member of the Northern Sinfonia. His performing
career has also involved teaching younger musicians, and
he is a tutor at The Sage, Gateshead. Colin embarked on
his conducting studies in the Czech Republic, and he has
been a guest conductor with regional choirs and orchestras.
|
| In 1995, he became Music Director
of the Alnwick and District Choral Society, with whom he has
toured the Czech Republic and Austria. He is currently Head
of Music at a school in Whitley Bay, and a frequent chamber
musician performer throughout the UK. |
| Chorus Master
- Peter Brown MA (Oxon) PGCE |
Peter Brown was brought
up in Somerset, where his musical talents became apparent from
an early age. He sang in choirs, played piano and organ and,
at 16, was appointed assistant organist in his large parish
church. As organ scholar at University College, Oxford, he was
principally responsible for conducting the chapel choir, and
in addition to studying for his degree in history, he took many
lead roles in the university's Gilbert and Sullivan Society.
Peter's extensive experience of singing with prestigious choirs,
composing, performing, teaching and directing has made him an
ideal rehearsal conductor for our Choral Society. |
| Accompanist
- Scott Grey |
 |
The Society is extremely fortunate in having
the services of Scott Grey, a very able and committed accompanist.
Originally a member of the basses, Scott adopted his new
role in 1988 and has given unstintingly of his time ever
since.
